National Carers Week 2017

Australia counts on carers, and National Carers Week, which runs from 15 – 21 October 2017, is a time to celebrate and recognise the 2.7 million Australians who provide care and support to a family member or friend with a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, terminal illness, or who is frail aged.

The theme for this year’s National Carers Week celebrations is ‘Carers Count.’ Carers make an enormous contribution to those they care for and to our local communities. Carers also make a significant contribution to our economy. In 2015 the replacement value of unpaid care was over $1 billion per week.

We encourage all Australians to be active during National Carers Week and help raise awareness by engaging with the media, local ministers, friends, colleagues and family, and holding carer-focused events. The launch of Carers Week in Queensland takes place on Friday 13 October 2017. The launch event also celebrates businesses and services providers who go the extra mile for carers with the presentation of the state winners of the Carer-Friendly Business Awards.  You can also read all about the 2016 Business Award winners.

The launch will be followed by regional events throughout Queensland. More details on regional Carers Week events will be available in August. Last year we hosted over 40 events throughout the week – check out how the regional offices celebrated in various ways.
