Better Start

Better Start provides access to funding for early intervention services. To access Better Start, children with an eligible diagnosis must register before they turn 6 years old. Families will have until their child turns 7 to access funding.

If you are considering a diagnosis for your child you may wish to discuss the Better Start approved formatted Letter of Diagnosis with your Paediatrician or GP.  This Letter of Diagnosis needs to be completed and returned to the Better Start Program Co-ordinator for approval.

The thresholds that apply to these disabilities have been determined by the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs in conjunction with advice provided by an Expert Reference Group.

Children are eligible for Better Start if diagnosed with one of the following disabilities: Angelman Syndrome; Blindness; Cerebral palsy; CHARGE; Cornelia de Lange; Cri du Chat; Deafblindness; Deafness; Down syndrome, including mosaic Down syndrome;Fragile X syndrome; Hearing impairment; Kabuki Syndrome; Microcephaly; Prader Willi Syndrome; Rett syndrome; Smith-Magenis; Vision impairment; Williams Syndrom
